Yesterday in the Auditorium the annual Martin Luther King Jr. day celebration took place. It opened with the black national anthem led by students from Harvest prep. The Youth Rally featured Tish Jones as the emcee, with a welcome from Mary Mackbee. There were performances from the art of dance, Nigerian dancers, and the Danza mexica cuauhtemoc dancers.There were prayers from Darryl Sledge and the Masjid Annur Mosque youth, and a poem performed by Tameishey Brown and Morian Collins. But, the main attraction was the keynote speaker Jeremiah Ellis with a wonderful speech about education.

After the rally, The annual Martin Luther King Day March took place. Rayford Johnson led over 2000 people in a march down Marshall Avenue from Central High School to Concordia University. The march included singing of well known civil rights songs such as "Wade In the Water." Many Central students and staff also marched.

The Alpine ski team meets today after school at Afton Alps for the Richfield invitational to take on Richfeild and Mathomedi.

The JV wrestling team competed at Owatanna on Saturday. The first place finishers included Ian Hedstrom and Olumide Ige. ----------
The final performances of the quarter for beginning acting and the Central Touring Theatre was last Friday. Here are some highlights.

Friday night, Link Crew faculty leaders again defeated Link Crew members in a hard-fought 3 hour broom ball match. Link Crew leaders were led by: Battling Backman, Steve "The Crusher" Collins, and Yahoo! Yernberg. Stay tuned after the news for video of the battle.

Finals start tomorrow for periods 1, 2, and 3 and continue on Thursday with periods 4,5 and 6. All periods will meet for two hours. Be prepared Central!

Reminder to all seniors today is the last day to turn in all snow tubing permission slips and money.

Today is the last day to sign up for the AMC exams. The exams will be taking place on Tuesday February 10th. The AMC-10 is only open to 9th and 10th graders, and the AMC-12, is open to all students. Sign up by today with any Central math teacher.

Friday night the boy's basketball team defeated the Highland Park Scots 62 to 41. The boys have an even 1-1 record in conference so far. Their next game is Friday against Wayzata.

The Central girl's basketball team defeated the Highland Scots on Friday 78 to 60. This keeps them at first place in their conference. Another note The girls basketball team does not practice today because of finals.
