Today is the last day to turn in submissions for The Black History poetry contest. Please submit all entries to Mr.Howell in room 556.

There is no school Monday because of Presidents day. The holiday was originally created to honor Abraham Lincoln and George Washington's birthdays which are on the 12th and 22nd of February. The holiday was later revised to honor all of our past presidents.

Central high school will be offering the Accuplacer Assessment Intake on Thursday February 26 at 8:00 in the Media Center. Students who plan to attend a Community College are required to take this assessment. The Accuplacer will test students on reading, math, and writing. Sign up with Ms. Krejce in room 367. Space is limited so sign up early. Students in grades 11 and 12 can test.

Valentines day is tomorrow, and CMN reporter Danielle Distad went out to find the love within the voices of central students. Feel free to sing along.

Central Track and Field Pre-season informational meeting takes place next week Wednesday 2:15 in the balcony for all interested students.

The GSA meets in Mr. Onorato's Room 506, next Tuesday after school. Their yearbook picture will be taken.

Tuesday February 17th - Friday February 20th MSA and MESIBAH is hosting Hunger Awareness week. This will include donating money and pledging to fast on Friday the 20th.You can pledge in all 3 lunches next week. You have the choice to fast from sunrise to sunset or from sunset to sunset. All fasters will be rewarded with a Banquet after school from 6:30-8:30 in the cafeteria Featuring live acts and guest speakers. Food will be catered by Cecil's Deli, Lee & Dee's Barbecue Express and other fine eateries.

Tomorrow and Sunday the 11th Annual "Cherish The Children" Pow Wow will be held in the Central Gymnasium. This celebration is hosted by Ain Dah Yung and includes dancing, drumming, and Indian art. The colorful parade of nations march-in Ceremony takes place at 1pm and again at 7pm. Admission is 3 dollars a day, or 5 dollars for the weekend.

This week Habitat for Humanity is competing in a "Change War" with Highland Park high school. Members from Habitat for Humanity will be in all lunches collecting change donations. The money collected will go towards building houses for the homeless and if we beat Highland we get to pie their mascot......

(PICS) Last night the Central Girls Gymnastics team placed 2nd in the St. Paul conference championship behind Highland Park. The team had their highest score of the season scoring 125.5. Congratulations to individuals Emma Burgeson and Anna Graziano who placed 2nd and 3rd All-Around and will move on to the Section championship in Roseville next weekend.

The Minnesota Energy Challenge to reduce Co2 admissions,sponsored by Roots and Shoots, starts next Tuesday. It lasts for one month and sign ups are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Chinese club holds their annual auction next Friday in the Auditorium at 4. Entrance fee is 1 dollar. All students who are planning to auction themselves must come to the meeting next Wednesday after school.

Beginning next week, all softball players who are interested in pre-season workouts will meet outside the athletic office on Tuesday February 17th at 2:15. Also remember there are free hitting and batting lessons at the Rice and Arlington batting cages on Sunday from 5:30-7:30.

Attention tennis players their will be a mandatory meeting Tuesday at 2:15 in the gymnastics room.

The Central Wrestling team takes on the Minnetonka Skippers tonight at 5 in Minnetonka.

Last night, The Central boys basketball team defeated the Highland Park Scots 76-36. Senior Jordon Larson lead the team with 15 points, Juniors Eric Grice and Taylor Smaller both had 10, and Senior Michael Adams had 8. The Minutemen are currently in second place in conference, and have five games left to play in the regular season.

Last night, the Central Minutemen girls basketball team blew past the Highland Park Scots, 71-38. High scores came from senior Samantha Robinson-Ricks with 21 points, senior Theiarra Taylor with 15 points, and senior Kyana Johnson with 13 points. The girls next conference game is a week from Tuesday, when they will take on the Arlington Phoenix at Arlington.
