There is no school Monday because of the national holiday, Presidents Day. The day was initially selected to honor Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and now honors all presidents.

The black history trivia of the day is that on this day in 1990, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded in New York City.

Today and tomorrow are the last days to donate for Central's Habitat for Humanity "Change wars" against Highland Senior High. Donate money to kids in the lunch room with big buckets. If we win we get to pie Highland's mascot.

Tuesday February 17th - Friday February 20th MSA and MESIBAH is hosting Hunger Awareness week. Students can donate money tuesday through thursday in all 3 lunches and pledge to fast tuesday through thursday in all 3 lunches. Students have the choice to fast from sunrise to sunset or from sunset to sunset. All fasters will be rewarded with a Banquet after school from 6:30-8:30 in the auditorium. Featuring live acts and guest speakers. Food will be catered by Cecil's Deli, Lee & Dee's Barbecue Express and other fine eateries. If you have any questions, talk to any member of the Mesibah or MSA.

The Annual Cherish the Children Pow Wow will be held here at Central on Saturday and Sunday. There will be drumming, dancing, food, and handmade crafts. A special ceremony, the parade of nations, will be at 1 pm and 7 pm. Admission is three dollars for a day, and five dollars for the whole weekend. Children under seven and elders get in free.

The NHS Environmental Committee meets today after school in room 461.
This is an important meeting so members should attend.

The number 1 ranked Central Minutemen girls basketball team take on the number 2 ranked Highland Park Scots tonight at Central. The game starts at 7 PM in the Central gymnasium.

Tonight at 7 the 2nd place Central Boy's Basketball Team takes on the 5th place Highland Scotts at Highland.

Today is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth. Darwin was an English scientist who studied how species change over time and proposed his revolutionary Theory of Evolution. He traveled on the HMS Beagle all over South America during his studies and he organized his findings and observations into his 1859 book "On the Origin of Species.
