Today Quarter 3 finals will be held in periods 4 and 6. Finals do not affect the regular schedule and class periods are still an hour long.

Attention all Seniors who need to take the Minnesota Basic Standards Tests for Reading, Math, or Writing. The tests will be offered after break. See Annette Nelson if you would like work to practice with over Spring Break. The Writing Retest will be offered on Tuesday, April 7th and the Math and Reading Retest will be offered on Wednesday, April 8th.

The Economics Challenge team took first place at a metro wide competition yesterday. The team will advance to the state finals on April 15. Zach Kagnon won the individual 3rd place scoring trophy.

The badminton team has its first conference game today at Johnson. They are 1 and 0 with a victory over Eden Prairie last week. There are nearly 60 girls on the team this year. Here is Cameron Smith with a look at the team.

Friday at Flahertys, 340 seniors went Cosmic bowling for their 3rd senior event. Top bowler Jeremy Levenger won a 1957 classic convertible.The top female bowler was Em McSwain who won an emerald jeweled necklace. Despite the long waits at the concession stand the seniors enjoyed a morning of video games, pool and of course Cosmic bowling. Class of 09 attendance broke the record amount ever to attend this event.

The online Central calendar incorrectly reported that there was an early release day tomorrow. Tomorrow is a regular school day. Students do not leave at noon

Our appreciation goes out to the Central Touring Theater for their life changing performance in Osceola, Wisconsin where they helped students with struggling issues.

Synergy will be collecting Video Games, and DVD movies this week Monday through Thursday in honor of Aleena who lost her life to cancer at the age of 11. (PICS) On Friday, the Central Asian Culture club hosted it's annual in the cafeteria banquet. The highlight of the evening was the talent show in the auditorium featuring singing hip-hop, break dancing, and ethnic dancing. Following the talent the students went the cafeteria for food. Over 100 students attended.

Congratulations to our Science Olympiad 'A' team, who finished 3rd out of 30 teams at last Saturday's state tournament. Seniors on the team are Ruben D'sa, Angie Tsuei, Jon Schellenberg, Geoff Schellenberg, Sarah Ludwig, Wendy Lang, and Jennifer Wei. Juniors are Anna Renkin, Martin Camacho, Yowon Yoon, and Christina Lee. Sophmore Kurt Hellersted and Freshmen Micheal Tsuei, Hannah Nesser, and Max Timmons. Last night the Central Minutemaid Badminton team grounded the Eden Prairie Eagles with a 4-3 victory. Individual winners include Kai Vang and Mai Kou Lor. Double winners were Doua Thao and Da Chang and also Melissa Vang and Nitsan Chang. For Mai Kou Lor, Melissa Vang and Nitsan Chang this was their first varsity match. The girls next meet is Tuesday at Johnson against Johnson.

(vid)Friday night, the one act play, "One in Ten" was performed in the black box. The play was about how gay high school students are treated and portrayed. The show was written and performed by nine Central students. All the donations raised at the event will be sent to the Matthew Shepard Foundation, which works to replace hate with understanding, compassion and acceptance.

Last Friday the Central Minutemen boys basketball team took on the Woodbury Royals in a home sectional playoff game. The stands were filled and the crowd cheered as the minutemen had a strong first half led by junior Ledarian Horton. The second half was exciting as the game was close the whole way through. Junior Cameron Smith led the Minutemen late in the game with seven consecutive points. They fought hard but the Royals took the win with the final score of 53 to 49. Good Job on such a great season boys!

Their will be a football meeting after school today for people interested in playing next year. This meeting is mandatory so if you cant make it please contact Coach Howell.

The boys finished with an impressive 19-6 overall record and hope to continue their winnig ways in the play-offs. This will be the last home game for seniors Jordan Larson, Michael Adams, DeJay Johnson, and Larry Davis. The game is at 7pm. Good Luck boys. Go Minutemen.

An organization called Genesys Works offers a summer internship program for juniors. The jobs are at a Fortune 500 company in the Twin Cities area. Pay will range from 8 to 12 dollars per hour. Yesterday afternoon Centrals band and Orchestra participated in a state competition called state large group competition and received all superior ratings from the three judges. Band scored 39 from 2 judges and 40 from 1. Orchestra scored 40 from 2 judges and 39 from the other. The judges thanked band for a marvelous performance and said all Orchestra's sections were superior.

Congratulations to Central Math team for taking 4rth place in the 25th annual state math tournament at South Saint Paul on Monday. Martin Camacho took first place in the tournament and first place in the mathematics league math bowl, defeating nearly 350 students from 46 different schools. We hope to have Martin and the team live in the studio next monday.

Last night was the Tri-School Concert, held in the Central Auditorium. The concert featured Central's Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Concert band directed by Mr. Oyen, Ramsey Junior High's Concert Band led by Mr. Corey Needleman, and Webster Elementary's Honor Band directed by Mr. Jonathan Hess. Instrumental pieces performed included "Incantation and Dance", "Fables of Faubus", Johannes Brahms "Symphony No. 2" and "Fanfare and Minuet". The concert was a success with many in attendance.

Tonight the 18-6 Minutemen basketball team take on the 3-20 Harding Knights here at Central for senior parent night. Come cheer on our boys for their last conference-home game. Tip off is at 7pm. The Woddbury Royals will be the Mintuemen's first team to battle in sectional playoffs.

The Central Jazz Band Performs today with four other high school jazz bands at the jazz band invitational hosted by Orchestra Hall and the Jazz Lincoln Center Orchestra. Centrals jazz band will be under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, a well known jazz musician, composer, and trumpeter.

Girls section playoffs continue tomorrow for the Minutemaid basketball team. The girls take on the White Bear Lake "Bears" in the semi-final round tomorrow night. The game starts at 6:00 at South St. Paul. White Bear Lake was 20-7 this past season, compared to the 21-6 record for the Minutemaids.

Ms. Erickson has a display case in the library that will feature religious and cultural artifacts. Each month will display a new culture. March will display Somali culture, April is Hmong culture and May is Scandinavian culture. Students who have any non- expensive items that represent any of these cultures please bring them to Ms Erickson in the library.

Ramp-Up to Readiness Tutoring is available: Monday in room 313 with Ms. Vadnais, Tuesday in room 312 with Mr. Karlen, Wednesday in room 574 with Mrs. Hardie or in room 565 with Mr. Paulson and Thurday in room 508 with Ms. Comeford.

(pics) The girls basketball team defeated Como Park 61 to 22 on Friday in the gym. Leading the girls to victory was senior Theairra Taylor with 10 points, Brianna Reeves with 8 points and LeNora Wilson with 7 points. Other scorers included; Abbye Barner, Seyara Smith, Kyana Johnson, Magan Tate, Jen'Von'Ta Hill, Laura Hanson, Maja Cyrus, Samantha Robinson, Catavia Jones, and Jasmine Conley. The sectional playoffs start Wednesday against North St.Paul starting at 7:00, if the girls win they will move on to the state tourament on March 18th.

(VID) On Saturday the Central girls basketball team tipped off against long time rivals the Minneapolis South Tigers at South high school for the annual twin cities game. The girls fought hard against South but fell 60-42. Ms. basketball candidate Taylor Hill scored 31 points. Theirra Taylor scored 20 points but the 13 missed free-throws decided the game. The Minutemaids look to rebound from this loss against the North Saint Paul Polars this Wednesday at 7pm. This is the first round of sectional playoffs and the game is here at Central.

(PIC) Friday night, students auctioned off in the Chinese Date Auction, brought their dates to an evening of fun and games. An estimated 200 students attended, participating in games and activities including bowling, hula-hooping contests, cup stacking contests and much more. The event also featured much enjoyed music, dancing and dinner.

(PICS) Last Friday, Paige Norman performed her original piece on social change, called "Love and Oppression: The Story of Mammy." The piece outlined and condemned stereotyping as something that oppresses and limits people. Paige said that "it's now our job to stop these stereotypes by speaking out, talking, and discussing these labels." Thanks to Paige and those who attended.

The Central Boys Minutemen basketball team defeated the Como Park Cougars 69 to 46 on Friday. Ledarian Horton lead the Minutemen in scoring with 20 points. The Boys are 2nd in conference.
