Another Focus The Nation event will occur tonight at First Avenue in Minnepolis. The event is free to all ages, will begin at 6 pm, and will feature speeches on fighting global warming by Antarctic explorer Will Steger, politicians, and young environmental leaders, as well as a hip-hop performance.

The newly formed Korean Culture Club meets Thursday after school in room 322. The groups meets to learn about the Korean Culture and how to speak Korean.

Juniors and Seniors who have NOT passed their Minnesota Basic Standards test for Mathematics and Reading, students who have not passed will have another opportunity to take these tests next week. Last night the Minutemaids gymnastics team lost a tough battle against the Johnson Governors 115.2 to 108.9. The girls are currently second in conference with a record of 3 and 3. Their next meet is the Junior Varsity Conference this Friday at Como Park at 5 PM.

This Saturday at 2:30PM, The Central Girl's Basketball team takes on Minneapolis South High School at Minneapolis South. Also on Saturday, The Boy's Basketball team takes on Washburn High School at Washburn at 1:00PM. In order to gain entry to the boy's or girl's basketball game this Saturday, students must have a student I.D. or planner and students must enter the game before half time or the doors will be locked.

Last night, Central's Mock Trial team "Yo Mama's Guilty" defeated regional opponent Eagan 232-221, in an intense trial between two of the top teams in the region. With the win, "Yo Mama's Guilty" will move onto playoff round 3 as the top seed in its region. Team "Rock the Mock" also competed, but lost a tough trial to the other team from Eagan. With the loss, "Rock the Mock" is eliminated from the competition, but has high hopes for next year. Congratulations to Laura Zats for earning a perfect score of 10 for her closing argument.

In sports action last night the boys' swimming and diving team took on the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles. It was a close meet, but in the end Central prevailed with a score of 98 to 85. The boys have a perfect record of 4 and 0

All Girl's Basketball Players The bus for today's scrimmage at DeLasalle will leave Central at 3:00. All three teams will be attending this scrimmage. There will not be any practices at Central today.

The boys basketball team hosted Minneapolis Southwest last night at Central's gym. The minutemen won the non-conference match-up easily 86 to 48. The boys' return to conference games on Friday against Arlington.

Tonight the boys hockey team travels to Parade stadium to take on Minneapolis East. The game starts at 7:30pm.

The badminton team will be selling egg rolls for $1 each today and Thursday during C lunch and after school in the lobby. In addition, the team hosts open gym for badminton players and anyone interested from 6 to 7 AM on Thursday.

(vid) On friday January 25th Centrals concert choir and One voice mixed choir performed in centrals auditorium. Directed by Martha Graber The centrals choir took the stage to performe the following: "Super flumina Babilonis" and "Walk in the light". Following Central, the "One voice mix choir" took the stage directed by Jane Miller and performed "A palette to paint us as we are" and "on a clear day". Both choirs then combineded and were directed by the gramey award wining Doctor Vance George to sing "Even beauty must die" and "Only once did love" and many more. Later that night the choirs performed at Central Pressateareny Church. Here is a sample fridays concert.

St. Paul Connections is offering a "Storm Chasers Meteorology" class at the Science Museum. The course is taught by Patrick Hammer of Channel 5's Eyeweitness News. You can earn a 1/2 elective credit. The cost is only $1 for the class. Class starts Tuesday Februrary 5 and ends March 25. See Ms. Krejce for a registration form.

On Thursday, January 31st, an exhibition will be held in Central’s auditorium from first through sixth hour to inform students about global warming and climate change solutions. Students will get the opportunity to vote on solutions to these problems. The results of this vote will be sent to our nation’s environmental decision-makers. The event is in affiliation with “Focus the Nation.” Science teachers are encouraged to bring their classes. Students interested in global warming education can also purchase a t-shirt during C lunch or in Ms. Houdek’s room. The cost is $10 and the profits will be used to help educate people on the dangers of global warming.

(VID)Last Friday night the the Girls basketball team smashed the Highland Scots with a score of 96 to 49. Senior Georgie Jones had an excellent game scoring 16 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, with 6 steals. Girls next game is Friday against Arlington.

On Friday at Highland the Central Minutemen Boys Basketball team throttled the winless Highland Scots 74 to 48. Juniors Jordan Larson led the team with 15 points followed by Dylan Hale, and Sophomore Taylor Smaller who put up 13 points each. This win put the Minutemen 3 and 0 in the conference. Their next game is against Arlington at 7 PM at Central.

On Friday the Boy's and Girls's Nordic Ski Team attended a meet at Baker Park.With the victory the Boy's earned 1st in St. Paul Conference and 2nd overall. Kellen Dunfee was 2nd all-round and 1st individual in the St. Paul Conference Championship.The Girls are 2nd in the St. Paul Conference.

(PICS) On Monday over 1,000 people gathered at Central High School for a Youth Rally and March to honor the Rev . Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The rally's MC's, Jeremiah and Jessica Ellis, began the event with the singing of the Black National Anthem by Imani, Mommie & Company. Principal Mary Mackbee welcomed the crowd to Central and spoke about the keystones of King's message - education and non-violence. After an invocation of Healing Spirit, Libby Osborne, a spoken-word artist, performed her latest work in tribute to Dr. King. Next the Hip-Hop team called "Post Nomadic Syndrome" energized the audience. Central graduate and present City Council member Melvin Carter was the featured speaker. He was followed by a lively dance number by four members of "Art of Dance - Dance Studio." Jessica Ellis introduced the elementary and middle school winners of the Martin Luther King poster contest. Richard Gamez then read his prize winning essay on Dr. King. He was followed by Breasha Turner who sang a stylized version of "We Shall Overcome" and Amirah Yazneen Muhammed-Coney ended he program with a brief prayer. The crowd then moved outside to Marshall Avenue to begin the march under he direction of W. Rayford Johnson. Led by Mayor Chris Coleman, Senator Amy Klobachuer, Senator Norm Coleman, Congressman Keith Ellison, and other dignitaries the crowd marched and sang to Gangelhof Center on the campus of Concordia University for another rally.

Last night, the Central Mock Trial team competed in its first round of competition. Central's team "Yo Mama's Guilty" annihilated Woodbury by 222-175. Central's other team "Rock the Mock" lost a tough trial to Farmington, 204-198. Congratulations to Sulamita Yang and Abe Schwabacher for earning perfect scores of 10 during their trial.

This past weekend Seniors Ben Quam and Illias Karim were top finishers at the debate State Tournament. They finished second to the team from Highland Park with a score of 3-2. This friday, Laura Johnson, Ben Quam and Steve Quam head to Atlanta Georgia to participate in the Barkley Forum national debate tournament.

Yesterday at the section four debate tournament In Plymouth, sophomore Hannah Johnson won first place in Lincoln-Douglas debate and will advance to the MN state debate tournament. Sophomore Molly Coleman will be the second alternate to the state tournament. In Policy debate, the senior team of Ilias Karim and Ben Quam placed third, qualifying them for the state tournament for the third year in a row. The MN state debate tournament will be next Friday and Saturday in Rosemount, MN. Good luck to Hannah, Molly, Ilias, and Ben!

This Friday, beginning acting presents "Justice, Peace and Love: What is Peace to You?" and Central Touring Theater presents a sneak preview from their 2008 touring show. (VID)Friday Decmber 21st the Roylaty and Loyalty Benefit concert "Hope", was a success. The concert raised almost 500 dolars which went to a charity for homeless children. Some of the nights performers included, Young Capo, Stacy B, The Mafia, Sky Hye,and a breakdance crew who flew in from California to perform.

(PIC) On christmas day Rebecca MacRostie of the St. Paul Blades, was named Student Athlete of The week in the Pioneer Press and Play maker of the Week in the Star Tribune. As a star goalie Rebecca has made 399 saves so far this season and has been in goal a total of 714 minutes.

Centrals Varsity boys basketball team was in action over break. The team traveled to Miluakee Wisconson to participate in the Miluakee invitational. The team lost their first game to Miluakee Northwest in a second half meltdown but bouced back and trounced Hope School By 45 in the the second game. Next they Participated in the annual Hamline Tournament where the team took 4th place.

Congratulations to Senior Georgie Jones as she earned "Plamaker of the Week" for the Pioneer Press. Georgie had 11 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots in a victory over Christ Household of Faith. The girls won 80-34 to improve to 7-1 overall. The girls play a team from Long Beach California in the Target Center Showcase this weekend.
