Last night, Central's Men's, Women's, and Concert Choirs as well as the Central Singers held their annual winter concert. Now here is CMN reporter Ana Hedenstrom with the story.

I know its chilly outside but winter has not even started yet. The official day for the beginning of winter is on Sunday at 6:04 am

The Jewish holiday Hanukkah known as The Festival of Lights begins at sundown on Sunday Dec. 21. The Festival will last for 8 days.

Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25th. The official christmas celebration lasts 12 days until epiphany.

Many African American Celebrate Kwanzaa beginning on December 26th.
The celebration includes the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa.

15 players have registered for the 2008 CMEP Madden Tournament. It kicks off today, after school at 2:30 in the Black Box.

"Feed the Need" banquet is tonight at 5 pm in the cafeteria. There will be chicken Alfredo, dessert, musical acts, and dance for an admission of 5 dollars. Proceeds will go to help out a local family. Performers, please show up early.

Central boys swim meet against Johnson has been rescheduled to today, at Humboldt, 4:30 pm. Also, the wrestling match with Humboldt has been rescheduled to Thursday, Jan 8, as part of a tri-meet with Arlington.

Girls basketball shoots it out tonight against New Prague at home. Tip off is at 7:00

The boys basketball team will be away tomorrow taking on Minneapolis North at 1:00.

There are a number of tournaments over winter break for Central athletics including boy's basketball in the Milwaukee Lutheran tournament on December 22nd and the 23rd and a Fridley Tournament on the 29th and 30th. Girl's basketball play in the Hopkins tournament on the 29th through the 31st.Wrestling has a faces off in the St. Charles tournament on December 20th. Boy's Hockey plays in the Chisago lakes tournament that lasts from the 27th through the 30th, and Girls hockey plays in the St. Cloud tournament on the 29th and 30th.

Central freshman Yudelli Perez was struck by a vehicle yesterday after school while crossing Marshall avenue, in front of Central. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she is currently reciving treatment. Centrals thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.

This morning the Pioneer press released its first state girls basketball rankings. The Central Girls team is ranked 3rd behind Hopkins and Centennial. The Girls next oppenent New Prague who they play Friday is ranked 10th. Minneapolis South who Central has defeated in the State Championship game 2 years in a row is ranked 7th.

(PICS) Last night The 2 time defending state champion Central Girls Basketball team defeated The Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders 56-43. The high scorers for the Game include Senior Samantha Robinson-Ricks with 16 and Freshman star Jen'von'ta Hill with 15. Senior star Theairra Taylor also added 11. The Girls are now 5-1 with four straight wins. The Girls next game is Friday at 7 against New Prague here at Central.

The Muslim Student Association and Mesibah held a holiday celebration last Friday in the cafeteria. The celebration began with a speech by co-presidents Malcolm Kerr and Jeremy Levinger, then a speech by MSA president Dahir Wako. The party concluded with some tasty traditional foods.

This past weekend, Central's wrestling team took 6th place in the Minneapolis Edison Tournament. 2 JV champions, Adrian Wood and Joe Jones did very well and heavy-weight champion Sam Hanson walked away with 3 pins.

This weekend the Central Girls Basketball team had two games, On Friday they defeated Minneapolis Washburn 68-21. The Girls played great defense allowing only 9 second half points. On Saturday they defeated Becker 43-34 in a close road game. The Girls next play tomorrow against Cretin-Derham Hall here at Central at 7.

The annual band winter concert took place last night in Central's auditorium. The Jazz Band, Varsity band, and Concert band played in front of a packed auditorium and put on quite a show. Here is Maddy Longhurst with the story.

Your chance to see winter concerts has not melted away. Central's award winning choirs are having their annual winter concert next week. The concert is on Thursday at 7:00pm in the auditorium. In preparation The Central Singers will perform Saturday at Park Square Theatre before the play Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol.

The Central Gymnastics team defeated the Johnson Governors 113 to 103 in a close meet. The all around winner was Anna Graziano with a score of 29.9. The girls next meet is on December 17th against Highland Park.

The South Saint Paul Packers defeated the Cougars boys hockey team yesterday at Coliseum arena. The boys played hard but suffered a narrow 3-2 loss.

The Central boys basketball team defeated Holy Angels yesterday 70-64 in their first non-conference basketball game. The boys look to get a 2nd win this weekend against Becker High school on Saturday in their first appearance on the new Central basketball court. Good luck boys.

Tonight the Central Gymnastics team will take on the Johnson Governors at 6:30 at Johnson in their first conference meet of the season. The team looks to start off the season right and possibly win the conference championship for the first time since 1993.

(VID) Central's Fall Musical Grease lit up the stage this weekend with 3 performances. Nearly 2,000 people attended the show over the weekend with over 750 people on Friday alone. Sam Sarriani and Pachia Yang did a knock out job playing the teenage lovers from the 50's. Here are some video highlights from the show.

The boys wrestling team got swept in the Eastview Quadrangular on Saturday. It was a tough day against some of the top teams in the state. However the highlight of the day was Senior Captain Sam Hansen pinning one of the top wrestlers on the Spring Lake Park team. The boys participate in the DeLaSalle Triangular today at 5 at DeLaSalle.

The boys combined hockey team took part in the Woodbury tournament this weekend at Bielenburg arena. The boys played with heart but lost in the first round to Tartan 8-3, and then fell to Farmington in the 3rd place game by a score of 7-2.

The reigning state champion Central girl's basketball team participated in the Hamline University tournament this weekend at Hamline. The girls played very well and defeated Rosemount in the first round with a score of 78-49. The championship was a big game with 2nd ranked Centennial Cougars and the 4th ranked Central facing off. The minute-maids fought hard but lost a tough match 68-56.

After 3 and a half months of reconstruction and rehabilitation, the new Central gymnasium is now open for classes and activities.

Date for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is Thursday, December 4. Bus will leave Central at 7:45 AM. Meet at the front doors at 7:40. Please remember to turn your permission slip in to Stephanie Fitzgerald, Room 474.
