Last night in Central's auditorium, Central hosted a combined concert featuring Central, Capitol Hill, and Ramsey Junior Highs orchestras. The bands played to a full house and highlights included Centrals Chamber Orchestra performing "Firework Music" and "Ragtime" & "Royal Dances" a combined piece from Central, Ramsey, and Capitol Hill bands. The bands were directed by Matthew Oyen, John Middleton, and Corey Needlemen.

Yesterday the Central Boy's Basketball team lost to the Arlington Phoenix 54-46. Despite the loss Ledarion Horton made 15 points with Jordan Larson fallowing close behind with 14 points. Central is now third in conference with an overall record of 16-6.

Badminton Open gym continues tomorrow morning at 6 am.

The Girls basketball team defeated the Arlington Phoenix 75 to 20 last night. 5'11" senior Theairra Taylor lead the team with 16 points, and 5'6'' senior Kyana Johnson had 14. The girls remain undefeated in conference with 11 wins, and an overall record of 19-5 this season. The Minutemaids last home game is friday night against Como.

Last week Friday, Chinese Club hosted their Funderaising Auction in the Auditorium. Over 150 people attended to bid on 70 contestants. The MCs in the Auction included Jermaine, Tonema, Cher, and Laurine Who kep the evening fumm of laughs and entertainment. There were many performances that included breakdancing, singing, rapping, and dancing. It was a successful night for the Chinese Club Fundraising Auction.

Roots and Shoots meets Wednesday in room 207. Your year book picture will be taken along with the regular meeting.

On Tuesday, Central will be hosting an orchestra festival in the auditorium, featuring Ramsey Jr. High and Capitol Hill. The festival starts at 7pm.

Hunger awareness week ended last Friday with a feast to celebrate the fast. 234 students, parents, and teachers pledged to fast for either 12 or 24 hours. The feast served food donated from local eateries such as Cecil's Deli, Lee and Dee's Barbeque, Cat-Man-Do, Everest On Grand, Pizza Luce, Little Cesar's, and Holy Land. After the meal, there was entertainment from local rappers Chance, Facade, and J-Weezy. There was also a presentation from the American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa. Over 400 dollars was raised to Arahah and Nieghborhood House.

The Central Alpine Ski team leaves for the Frostbite Invitational held today at Wild Mountain. The bus leaves at 11 am and returns at 730pm.

On Saturday, the boys hockey team lost a hard match against the Johnson Governors at Phalen ice arena, 5-1. The boys are currently ranked 6th in conference with a 3-9-2 record. Play-offs start on Wednesday.

Sunday is Oscar's night. For more insight on students' movie picks this year, Central Morning News and Journalism conducted a poll for "Which movie should win the Oscar this year". Over 200 students voted in total having The Case of Benjamin Button" take the lead with 31 percent. Second place went to Slumdog Millionaire with 26 percent of the votes. Oscar's Awards take place this Sunday night.

This past weekend Central's gymnasium was packed, but it wasn't for a basketball game. Central hosted the 11th annual Pow Wow for "Ain Dah Yung," a shelter for homeless american indian youth. Here's Jamie LeClaire with more on the story.

(Pics) Last weekend, the Ain Dah Yung Center hosted the 11th Annual " Cherish the Children" a traditional PowWow in the Central Gym. "Ain Dah Yung" in Ojibwe means "Our Home". . Over 1000 Native Americans and others gathered on Saturday to share their tribal stories, songs, dances, and art.
Highlights of the 11th Annual Pow Wow included 6 different dances: Fancy Dance, Grass Dance, Traditional Dance, Jingle Dance, Fancy Shawl, and Round Dance. The big event was the Grand Entry March -In and ceremonial drumming competetion that took place at 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock with more than 12 Native American tribes drumming and singing their tribes songs and stories..

There is no school Monday because of Presidents day. The holiday was originally created to honor Abraham Lincoln and George Washington's birthdays which are on the 12th and 22nd of February. The holiday was later revised to honor all of our past presidents.

Central high school will be offering the Accuplacer Assessment Intake on Thursday February 26 at 8:00 in the Media Center. Students who plan to attend a Community College are required to take this assessment. The Accuplacer will test students on reading, math, and writing. Sign up with Ms. Krejce in room 367. Space is limited so sign up early. Students in grades 11 and 12 can test.

Tomorrow and Sunday the 11th Annual "Cherish The Children" Pow Wow will be held in the Central Gymnasium. This celebration is hosted by Ain Dah Yung and includes dancing, drumming, and Indian art. The colorful parade of nations march-in Ceremony takes place at 1pm and again at 7pm. Admission is 3 dollars a day, or 5 dollars for the weekend.

This week Habitat for Humanity is competing in a "Change War" with Highland Park high school. Members from Habitat for Humanity will be in all lunches collecting change donations. The money collected will go towards building houses for the homeless and if we beat Highland we get to pie their mascot......

Last night, The Central boys basketball team defeated the Highland Park Scots 76-36. Senior Jordon Larson lead the team with 15 points, Juniors Eric Grice and Taylor Smaller both had 10, and Senior Michael Adams had 8. The Minutemen are currently in second place in conference, and have five games left to play in the regular season.

Last night, the Central Minutemen girls basketball team blew past the Highland Park Scots, 71-38. High scores came from senior Samantha Robinson-Ricks with 21 points, senior Theiarra Taylor with 15 points, and senior Kyana Johnson with 13 points. The girls next conference game is a week from Tuesday, when they will take on the Arlington Phoenix at Arlington.

(PICS) Last night, at the Xcel energy center, 6,000 people attended the Departure ceremony for the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, who are being deployed to Iraq. The governor, mayor, and some Central graduates attended the event, and every guest received a steak dinner, provided by local restaurants. The dinner was the largest recorded in Minnesota History. One thousand and thirty seven soldiers, many from the twin cities, will be deployed, including Master Sgt. Chris Schlukebier and Central Grad Sgt. Zach Jones. We will keep them and thier families in our thoughts during this difficult time and wish for thier safe return.

Ain Dah Tung's 11th Annual "Cherish The Children" Pow Wow takes place in Central gymnasium Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m. This event is one of the largest Native America gatherings in the State of Minnesota, and is open to all. The even features cerimonial dancing and drumming.

(VIDEO)Last night, the Central Minutemen boys basketball team, now 5-2 in conference, lost a close game against the Johnson Governors, now 7-0 in conference, with a score of 71-70. Highlights of the game came from lead scorer Jordan Larson, with 27 points, he battled all the way till his 5th foul within the last minute of the game and Cameron Smith converting a 4 point play, adding 5 points to the overall score. Other lead scorers include Taylor Smaller with 12 points, Nate Kado with 8 points, Ledarion Horton with 6 points, and Micheal Adams with 5 points. The boys next game is on Thursday, where they will play the Highland Park Scots, who is 3-4 in conference, at Highland. Tip-off starts at 7.

(vid) Friday Night, the Central Minutemen Girls Basketball team were joined by Centrals band to take on the Harding Knights. The Minutemaids kept Harding at 3 points at half-time with a 31-3 score. Twelve Central girls scored in the victory with Theairra Taylor leading the way with 18 points. The team put on a 3-point shot clinic with notable scorers: Kyana Johnson, Megan Tate and Chantel Robinson all with 6 points each, Laura Hansen with 8 points, Maya Cyrus with 9 points, and Samantha Robinson-Ricks with 11 points. The girls also beat Osseo on Saturday 57-51 and remain undefeated in conference overall record of 15-5. The girls take on the Johnson Governors tomorrow night at Johnson, tip off is at 7pm.

The Central JV gymnastics team took conference with a perfect record after wrapping up their season last Friday at Como. The girls had a perfect season winning all there matches. All Around winners were 10th graders Julia Amundson and Brett Schneider taking 1st and 2nd respectively. Congratulations girls on a great season! Next up for the girls is the varsity conference, this Thursday at Johnson

Yesterday the Central gymnastics team placed 4th in the Twin Cities Championship meet with a point total of 122.20.

(VID) Last night the Central Minutemen girls basketball team defeated the Humboldt Hawks, with a close game of 58-42. The high scorer of the game was Kyana Johnson with 17 points and Jen'Von'Te Hill trailing with 13 points, and Theairra Taylor contributed to the score with making multiple 3 pointers. The girls exited Humboldts gym with their 69th consectutive win. The girls take on the Harding Knights this Friday at Central.

The boys Nordic ski team competed at Battle Creek yesterday in the section finals. Senior Klein Dunfee lead to the section 3 victory with a time of 32:32. Qualifiers included Thomas Kendrick, Freddy Wieffering, Michael Van Voorhis, Ben Swanson, Jon Goetz, and Aaron DeLaundreau. The boys will be moving on to state. The girls Nordic ski team also competed yesterday, and placed 7th in the section.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of "The Day Music Died". 50 years ago from last night, Rock and Roll legends Richie Valeus, Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly were killed in a plane crash after a concert in the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Thousands of fans and some of the biggest names in music gathered In The Surf Ballroom to honor Th Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and Richie Valeus.

Yesterday in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania, a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil emerged out of his hole to indicate whether or not there will be six more weeks of winter. It looks like we wont be having an early spring his year but will have six more weeks of winter. An estimated 13,000 witnesses dressed in a traditional black and gold, watched Phil see his own shadow and scurry back into his hole.

The conference undefeated Central Minutemen Girls Basketball team crushed the Como Park Cougars 70 to 17 Friday at Como. 5'11 Senior Theirra Taylor was the leading scorer with 23 points. The girls broke the conference record of 67 consecutive wins, previously held by Cretin, with 68 wins after the victory against Como. The girls play away tomorrow at Humboldt. Tip off is at 7pm.

The Central Minutemen Boys Basketball team defeated the Como Park Cougars 79-56 here at Central Friday night. 6'3", Senior, Jordan Larson was the high scorer with 22 points, and 5'9", Junior, Cameron Smith followed with 14 points. The team had an outstanding 7 three-pointers. The second place in conference boys take on the 7th place Humboldt Hawks tomorrow night here at Central at 7pm.
